World Leaders in Orthopaedic Hip and Knee Replacement Research
Dr. David Scott is the leader in the Pacific Northwest in orthopaedic surgery research, focusing on hip and knee joint replacement. Many years ago, he started Spokane Joint Replacement Center, Inc., which is his research, development, and consulting institution.
More recently, he founded Ortho Research Master™ (ORM), developing from scratch a full-featured electronic data capture (EDC), clinical trial management (CTMS), and statistical analysis software system. This a software platform unique in the industry for combining all the key electronic tools required for creating, managing research studies, and for analyzing and presenting the research data obtained from these studies. In addition to ORM being a tool crucial to his own research efforts, Dr. Scott licenses ORM to third parties for the management of orthopaedic research projects.
Dr. Scott believes that research is critical to the advancement of medicine. His core conviction supports the OSC standard of constant improvement to the care and solutions we offer patients. Dr. Scott spends countless hours beyond his clinical work, tirelessly working on numerous research projects, with the hopes of making a lasting contribution to his field.
Dr. Scott’s constant activity in the joint replacement research field makes him one of the most influential joint replacement surgeons in the country. He recognizes that physician-driven research is indispensable for finding new and better ways to serve patients. For this reason, he initiates many of his own studies—a unique practice among his peers. Dr. Scott has also gathered a strong team to support his crucial research efforts. The full staff at OSC maintains certifications with the National Institute of Health and the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative.
At any given time, Dr. Scott employs one or more Clinical Research Coordinators, who assist with the research activities. Dr. Scott also sponsors a Clinical Research Internship, generally filled by a motivated student taking a gap year, often prior to medical school. Through his faculty appointments with the University of Washington and Washington State University, he sponsors multiple medical students (usually 10+), mentoring them with their research projects. His commitment to research also expands into the academic world. Thanks to his presence on the academic staff of these universities, he is helping shape the future of the profession, mentoring medical students on their journey towards their profession.
Additionally, Dr. Scott acts as leader in orthopaedic technology research, often partnering with the world’s major orthopaedic implant manufacturers, in guiding them in the design and development of new products and technologies. These companies seek his experience and advice in developing the next generation of hip and knee implants. His work has included development of several state-of-the-art hip and knee replacement systems. Today he continues to contribute to the design of new implants and instruments improving the quality of care for all joint replacement patients.
